Thin client architecture design for world largest paints manufacturer
THE CUSTOMER

Client is one of Canada’s largest makers of paints and industrial coatings and has the widest geographic spread of any international paint business. Client is a world leader in architectural and decorative paint and coatings for food and drink cans.

THE CHALLENGE

The environment considered for Thin client architecture is for the Mid-West region, which is spread over 6 states including 25 sites and 2500 users. The client systems currently used were NT and Windows 9x, Windows 2000 and Windows XP. The network is based on leased line or Frame relay.

THE SOLUTION

WDL conducted a data gathering exercise, which included information about the existing IT infrastructure required for designing the Thin client architecture. This was followed by a interview with the various Subject Matter experts to understand the objectives and global design, so that the resulting architecture is consistent with the global design.

WDL studied different models and tools (like CITRIX, Tarentella etc.) and provided recommendation for the implementation of TCA for the existing infrastructure and the regional data center.

The deliverables included guidelines for Active Directory, Security, Licensing, Wireless network implementation with respect to Thin client implementation

THE BENEFITS

The customer accrued substantial savings on reduced Desktop refresh and support costs coupled with minimal application deployment and maintenance cost. The thin client roll out enables easier software deployment and access to applications from wireless devices. Ability to access applications and information using either a browser or Citrix native client was made possible.
